"The Girl on the Stairs: The Search for a Missing Witness to the JFK Assassination"

"The Girl on the Stairs" is the story about the reemergence of a key witness to the assasination of President John F. Kennedy after a 35 year search by the author, Barry Ernest. This mysterious woman had disappeared into obscurity many years ago after being belittled by the Warren Commission investigating the death of JFK. However, her testimony as to what she AND ONLY SHE saw the day of the assassination—due to being in just the right place at the right time—may very well challenge everything the government has told the American public about the events of that fateful day.

The journalistic mood of this book is very dark and raises a lot of troubling questions, so I wanted to reflect these feelings in the cover's visuals by the use of typewriter-style, distressed fonts. I also digitally combined two carefully chosen, very dramatic, high-contrast images to fill the entire front cover: a steep staircase on the top half, delicately blending into the iconic, famous image of JFK laying in his coffin on the bottom half just under the title. The combined result of type and carefully chosen imagery is a book cover that remarkably reflects its contents and overall mood.
